ELECTIVES

Electives provide an opportunity for students to explore their interests beyond the core curriculum. This can help them discover new passions and hobbies that they may not have known existed. This kind of enrichment education also allows students to diversify their skill sets and gain knowledge in areas that may be outside of their comfort zone. This can help them develop a range of skills that can be useful in their personal and professional lives.

COURSE DESCRIPTIONS

  HOLISTIC HEALTH & WELLBEING

One Semester Course - 0.5 Credit - Elective

Physics gives students a glimpse into the micro and macro forces that provide a circuitry of connection between us and our universe.  These forces are a code of law that we are bound to every single day, and understanding them will help our students manage boundaries in all aspects of life.  This class can be challenging to students, but don't shy away from it.  It is absolutely necessary in not only understanding the space around us but in appreciating the grand design of earth and space as well.  We have a passion to understand more complex, mind bending topics such as quantum physics and string theory, which will be studied by our students.

  ENTREPRENEURSHIP & CAREER DEVELOPMENT

Full Year - 1.0 Credit - Elective

This course will require students to chose either one of the two paths: entrepreneurship or career development. For the entrepreneur, this course will introduce students to visualize and materialize their entrepreneurial dream. We will aim to teach students about the skills, knowledge, social skills, and mindset required to start and run a successful business venture or research career choice and gain an internship for their desired career. The course will require each student to come up with a business idea and build it from scratch with ideation, logo, website, service details, market research, operations, management, and landing their first client. For the career minded student, we will research career choices, college requirements, trade requirements, fees involved, current employees and employers, and internship or shadowing opportunities.

 DRAWING & COLORING

One Semester Course - 0.5 Credit - Elective

Learning to draw can provide many benefits, both personal and professional. Drawing can help you tap into your creativity and imagination. It allows you to express yourself visually and explore new ideas and concepts. This skill also slows you down and requires careful observation of the world around you. It also incorporates building fine motor skills, which can help improve dexterity and hand-eye coordination. This can be beneficial in other areas of life, such as playing a musical instrument or typing on a keyboard. Drawing and coloring can be a relaxing and meditative activity that can help reduce stress and anxiety in students and help them find a great hobby they can continue to build on.

 PHILOSOPHY & ETHICS

One Semester Course - 0.5 Credit - Elective

This in-depth Christian worldview philosophy course begins with an introduction to Christian philosophy and the philosophy of religion and then continues into a detailed study of Christian ethics. It concludes with a series of lectures exploring the history of Christian thought from Plato through the modern day.

 ACT/SAT TEST PREP

One Semester Course - 0.5 Credit - Elective

For the PSAT/ACT/SAT test, the best time to begin your prep journey is the summer after Sophomore year (10th grade). This course gives you access to joining the group class for one year. This class meets 2-3 times a month and includes Tika's Online Course with over 20 hours of material, which is being added to consistently. The PSAT will be administered in the fall and spring semesters of their Freshman, Sophomore, and Junior year. However, the SAT will be given the spring semester of their Junior year (11th grade). Although they do not give the ACT at school, it is highly recommended you take a practice ACT to see which test your child likes better as there are differences between them.
